Embarking on his fitness journey was the best health and wellness change Jie Ren could have Ever made in his life. 

Prior to my fitness transformation journey, I was not an active person – I used to play a lot of video games daily, staying sedentary for many hours. While gaming, I was always snacking on unhealthy food like chips, chocolates and sweets. To make things worse, after finishing my games late at night, I would head for supper without caring how it will affect my health and weight. This went on for months as I stayed oblivious to what I was doing to myself.

It only hit me when I received my health check-up results. My Body Mass Index (BMI) was at 30 and I was categorized as obese. At that point, I was 83kg with 27% body fat percentage. The doctor also warned me that obesity will increase the risk of many chronic illnesses. I started to worry about my health and gradually lost my self-confidence too. 

I took the bold step to join the transformation journey, even though I was not certain about being able to achieve my end goals. Being a vegetarian, I was also concerned about the protein intake I needed to build up muscle mass. Everything felt daunting to me. However, with the help of the Fitness First Personal Trainer Team, I was able to learn more about nutrition, and I also started to research more about it on my own. As it is hard to find good quality vegetarian meals outside, I learned how to meal prep – I cut down on sugar and fats and increased my intake of plant-based protein like tofu, lentils, chickpeas and nuts. I also started to take a plant-based supplement, Innermost, to support my transformation journey. 

The transformation process took a lot of time and effort, but I can say that it is worth it. After all the hard work I have put in, I am proud with the results that I see. I have gained muscle mass and reduced my body fat percentage to 14%. Not only did I make a physical change, it has also changed my mindset as I see things a lot more differently and positively.  

For anyone who is thinking about making a change, my advice is to just do it and trust the process.
