I was deeply concerned the day I got an X Ray report which said: “There are signs of deterioration of bone mass”. It took me five years to pick up the courage to join a gym and accept the fact that I needed a strong body to stay healthy and to function in everyday activities like lifting shopping bags etc. I have no regrets joining Fitness First and I’m convinced that fear is all in the mind.

Ram Toh has been my Personal Trainer since mid 2007 and I’m into my fourth training package with him. He has helped me in my recovery and I am thankful for his encouragement and motivation. He has helped me through the greatest challenge I’ve faced: a degeneration of the spine. He is dedicated and I highly recommend him for his professionalism and skill in planning an exercise programme suitable my health condition.

I overcame my health condition.
I had Gastroesophageal Reflux with signs of a mild hernia and spurs on flat feet but training with Ram helped me towards full recovery! My hernia recovered through core training and the problem with my hip and flat-feet greatly improved due to leg strengthening exercises. On top of that, I lost 6 inches around the waist (from 38 to 32cm) within four months of my first personal training package.

I overcame Chronic Pain in the Spine!
Then, in April 2008, a small central disc protrusion (C5 to C7) left me unable to turn my head. As a result, my rehab doctor told me to suspend training for nine months and I could only follow my doctor’s functional exercise plan which consisted of light training five times a week on Cardio equipment (mainly Stationary Bike) and stretches. When I resumed training with Ram, my spinal condition started to improve and I was able to add, the Elliptical and Treadmill, Stepper and CardioWave™ to my training routine. My greatest fear then was to walk on the Treadmill and look straight but Ram helped me build up confidence and he encouraged me to run. I started with the speed of 6.5 and I am now at the speed of 8.5. The process took about 5 months but I’ve made it! I’m now able to run although my doctor had told me that I would not be able to run anymore.

Furthermore, my waste line has slimmed down by another 2 inches to 30cm and I’m also able to progress to more advance exercises. I must say that I used to dislike exercising but now it is part of my lifestyle and I enjoy every gym workout. I am glad for the variety of equipment and ways one can exercise at the gym. My health condition improved and the pain has decreased (from level 9 to level 2) after Ram’s programme of strength training the shoulder blades and core muscles. I was very happy when my weight dropped significantly from 75 kg to 65 kg and it’s gradually decreasing day by day. I am now in a better shape and have changed my wardrobe!

Thanks to my trainer Ram for giving me a new life. You have shown me that hope can turn into reality.
